We’ve come to the end of the year! On Friday 9th June all 51 final year undergraduate students from the Department presented their major projects in a poster session. This is the first time we have run this kind of event, and we saw students discuss their project findings with academics, other staff and each other. It was a great opportunity to see our final year students all together one last time as undergraduates; the next time we all meet will be in the graduation ceremony in the summer.
We were also joined by Dr Ritesh Rawal and Dr Tasneem Shariff from Johnson Matthey, who kindly sponsored two prizes for the best posters, won by Hannah Smith for her project ‘Cement sponges for radioactivity’ and Jen-Yin Wang for ‘The Return of the Artefact’, investigating the properties of sports shoes.
We were extremely impressed by the content, presentation as well as the depth and breadth of the knowledge displayed by the students. It clearly demonstrates the Department’s strength to provide high quality education for everyone and from every background – Ritesh Rawal & Tasneem Shariff, Johnson Matthey
I really enjoyed the poster session, it was a perfect way to celebrate the end our degree and the hard work everyone has put in over the past 3/4 years – Hannah Smith, final year MEng Materials Science with Nuclear Engineering
